A Win For #1

For the first time since July 31st, the Rockies got a win when the #1 Pitching spot took the mound. Not since a 5-3 win over Cincinnati, had the Rockies delivered with a W for Cook or his replacements. The other starters alone have won 15 games during that span, and the Rockies overall have been 20-13 since then.

Jose Contreras scattered 8 hits and a walk over 6 2/3 innings in his Rockies debut. The only run scored on a Brandon Allen Home Run in the 2nd inning, after the Rockies had scored 2 in the first. He did not have a clean 1-2-3 inning the entire night, but faced 4 hitters in each of the first 6 innings, and was removed after 3 hitters in the 7th (and two outs.) Oddly, the D-backs had exactly 4 hitters in every inning except for the 8th inning.

The series finale is Sunday against the D-Backs, followed by the Cincinnati Reds for 4 before heading out on a 9 game road trip. The Giants kept pace and remain 1 game behind.
